The best food spot in San Fransisco by far! A classic spot with a great selection of food and shakes!

Usually hit this place after shows at the regency. Foods not bad at all and feels like I have seen the same people here for years. Would rate higher but seems really expensive for the type of food. Will still hit it after shows.

It's been years since the last time I visited the Grubstake until recently. Best diner food I've had in ages. Perfect.

Our waiter and waitress did a great job. The food was definitely another story. The wings had no flavor, our burger was cold and the french dip was very bland.

A diner built inside an old carriage with a fairly authentic feel to it and good but not "great" food. The menu and meals are simple but the service is very fast. There don't appear to be toilets and the steps at the front and narrow floorspace make the place unsuitable for disabled people. The prices are reasonable and the drinks are bottomless, though that isn't mentioned in the menu Unusually, the proprietor asks for payment, including the tip, up front. I've knocked a star off for this behavior as it excludes the tip motivation for good service. Overall this is a good place to take the family for a reasonably piced meal.

Excellent interior! Food is great and the service was really polite and helpful. The food is cooked in the small kitchen, fresh so it's not super fast but as you'd expect for good stuff.

Nice place, good atmosphere. Burger was very good, ordered the Grubsteak burger. Only downside was that fries were $5 extra. Guess there is a premium for carbs or something.

This place pleased me as I got so much comfort after eating lunch with two of my friends. We ate nugget burger and classic french toast. Those were healthy and tasty as well. The customer service is mind-blowing. After lunch, we gossiped in a nice environment.

Good food, good quick service. We actually liked the turkey sandwich over the super duper burger. The turkey sandwich tasted fresh, especially the seasoned turkey. The fries were also top notch. Decided not to buy a milkshake though, because they were $12. And we had already spent $34 on our main dishes.

Grubstske was delicious! Sorry no pictures. Too hungry. Charles got a juicy hamburger with hand cut fries. Stephanie got a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado on tasty sourdough bread.

american food and the scene at this place is great. Staff is always timely even when they have a full house. The prices are well within reason for the quality.

American food and the atmosphere here is super good. The service was very welcoming and sociable. I can see why they have so many great reviews.

Great spot for quality American food. One of the best spots in the area. Service treated us so nice. The prices are good for what you get.

Really great vibe here with some excellent local beers and the best grilled cheese I have had in a good long while. The onion rings are also delicious.

Old school Frisco! Open late night. Family values. Portuguese flavors, breakfast and burgers.

Not the best "diner" i've ever been to...overpriced if you ask me but it does have some of the best buffalo chicken wings i've eaten in a very long time. Portuguese secret sauce not needed...The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was insultingly puny. Handcut Fries were so-so but well salted and hit the spot after a night out. Its open until 4am for all you club hoppers.

Delicious diner food. Plus excellent Portuguese selections. I will be back.

Fine place for American food. Arrived at six, it was not packed. The staff was very welcoming and sociable. Prices are reasonable I would say.

I just had THE MOST AMAZING chicken wings of my life! The Portuguese Buffalo Wings are absolutely incredible. I only walked into The Grubstake because it was cold outside and I didn't want to walk further to get fast food. I'll be back though for those wings! I don't know how they got the meat to fall off the bone like that, but it sure is satisfying. The spice is just right, too. Those big, meaty wings made for an intense session of dip, chew, savor, and repeat. Thanks for the experience!

The Portuguese buffalo wings were great. We also had the BYO cheeseburger and Cali chicken sandwich w/fries everything tasted fresh and amazing.

Kitchy little place. Great pics on the walls and a big bar. We were a little apprehensive but we chalked it up to the waitress. (She was a little out of it.) BUT- the Patty Melt was Awesome! Best I've ever had. The beef tasted very good and it was cooked properly. The Rye bread was on point and the cheese was warm and gooey. Very nice! Shakes looked very good but at $10 a pop, we decided to pass.

Open til 4 am, huge and pleasantly welcoming security guard. Diner food portions plentiful and excellent, prices moderate. Great for after clubbing.

They got our order wrong but what we got satisfied the burger itch. The green sauce is delicious as are the Tacos.

I myself really liked the late night food and the service. However, they donΓ’β¬β’t have real gluten free food. My friend is gluten sensitive and had issues after having Γ’β¬Εgluten free foodΓ’β¬Β here.

Great little place for a dinner style burgers and shakes. Staff was more than helpful. Just another gem buried in the S.F.

Cute restaurant, but food was over priced for the quality and quantity of food given. I was excited to see Portuguese food here, but was very disappointed in the flavors of the food. The burgers looked good, but the fries were not that great considering they were an extra $5.50.

I havent been here in a long time and it didn't disappoint, just as good as the first time I had it. Get the onion rings!!!
